The Tickhill Velo Grand Prix organized by Tickhill Velo Club in association with BikeBoxAlan is a criterium race for up to 100 Riders on a fast circuit over the closed roads of Tickhill.
The 1.3km British Cycling approved circuit is based on Sunderland Street, starting and finishing outside the Scarborough Arms Pub and takes in the iconic historic Tickhill Buttercross.
The Race will start at 11:00 and last one hour. ( 50 mins + 5 laps) with the Road Closures in place between 10am and 12.30.
This British Cycling endorsed event is supported by Tickhill Town Council, Doncaster Council and has been approved by South Yorkshire Police for safety and road closure / traffic management.
This inaugural event is open to BC Category 3 & 4 Riders with prizes for the top 10, highest placed Woman rider, highest placed Junior rider, most aggressive Rider and individual Sprint Primes.
We have ambition to make this an annual event including separate Elite, Cat 1 & 2, Cat 3 & 4, Womens and Junior races.
With the success of Sir Chris Hoy and the British Cycling TeamÆs Gold Medals and the back to back Tour de France wins by Sir Bradley Wiggins and Chris Froome, Cycling has become the single most successful legacy of the Olympic Games.
Tickhill itself has a rich heritage of bike racing with connections to Tom Simpson at Harworth through to todays generation of professionals with Russ Downing riding for NetApp - Endura living in the village.
We hope you will come along and support the race, stay for a drink at the many Pubs & Cafes, visit our local shops and enjoy the day as T-Fest (Tickhill music festival) picks up in the afternoon.
Tickhill Velo Club and BikeBoxAlan are proud to be jointly promoting this brand new race to support the development of Cycle Racing in South Yorkshire, promote local Cycle Clubs and to bring thousands of visitors to Tickhill which can only help the Village.
The race is supported by a number of sponsors who are making it possible with their generosity.
Entries are now open and close on 1st Sept. Any BC Cat 3 or 4 Riders wishing to enter the event can do so via the British Cycling website and entry by day license will be available.
